MEET ANGIE

Meet Angie from Rebalance Fit.

I get so excited to be apart of the process of breaking down negative patterns and belief systems that hold people back in their body and in life.

It’s so motivating for me, seeing someone do exercises they never thought they could, and absolutely smash them. It’s fun seeing this new confidence transfer into their daily routines and often has such an impact it potentially changes the course of their lives. Belief is at the forefront! I’ve realised through experience, that if you want to be successful in the long run, you need to maintain balance in all facets of life – my passion is facilitating the rebalance in people’s lives.

Sport has always been a huge focus in my life; I’ve always loved to push the boundaries in what my body can achieve. My background as a competitive gymnast propelled my success in surfing, where I became a NZ representative at a young age, national junior and later national open champion. Alongside this, I was a sponsored snowboarding athlete and instructor.

Later I moved to the Gold Coast where I became Queensland surfing champion. After being asked to work on a TV show as a surfing specialist stunt double, it was here that I started my grading process, to being a stunt performer. 2 years of specific stunt training I became a professional stunt performer and have been involved in stunts and continual training for approximately 5 years. I continued my surfing career where I recently made the Queensland team and competed in the Australia open titles making the semifinal coming 5th in July 2017.

I learned the repercussions of imbalance the hard way in my sporting career; I pushed my body too hard in my early days. My injuries started to plague me; I started to be in constant pain, it scared me that I couldn’t enjoy movement anymore at such a young age. Later I came to realise all the sports I did were so imbalanced, I needed to find some balance for my body. I went to many different professionals but nothing seemed to help the pain at the time.

Knowledge is power; alongside my sports I’ve had a passion for learning about the human body. I studied at NZ Institute of Sport and became a certified personal trainer, received a prime ministers scholarship and studied Sports Management at Southern Cross University. I furthered my education in health and became a certified Fitness Specialist and certified Remedial Massage Therapist. I was so fortunate to be lectured under two incredible physiotherapists, where their experience enabled me to explore more in depth the musculoskeletal and myofascial pain and discomfort I was in. Through this experience, I was able to understand why it was happening and syphoning through what was effectively helping to get rid of the pain I was experiencing. I focused a lot of my studies on injury prevention, management, postural strength and alignment.

I love to learn, to explore knowledge, I am constantly building on this, recently gaining a specific sports nutrition certificate and a certificate in life coaching.

Balance is the key, balance the work with rest and maintaining the body, realising this is crucial to continuing to enjoy movement in the things you love to do!
